Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalia Kochanova and Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko laid a wreath and flowers at the monument to the liberation of Polotsk and visited the Spaso-Eufrosinievsky Stavropigial Nunnery within the framework of the 11th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, BELTA reports.
The excursion of the chairpersons of the upper houses of the parliaments of Belarus and Russia to the famous Polotsk nunnery began with a meeting with the abbess of the monastery, Abbess Yevdokia, and the sisters, nuns of the monastery.
In the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Natalia Kochanova and Valentina Matviyenko laid their hands on the festive icon and the Cross of St. Euphrosyne.
Then a small concert was held for the distinguished guests. The choir of sisters of the monastery performed the church hymns. Natalia Kochanova and Valentina Matviyenko also visited the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Polotsk.
