Foreign Ministry: Belarus prepared asymmetric measures in response to new EU sanctions

Belarus has prepared asymmetric measures in response to new EU sanctions, said Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Anatoly Glaz, commenting on the introduction of new EU restrictive measures against Belarus. BelTA reports this.

“All these multiple EU sanctions decisions are united by the main thing - the complete futility of achieving their destructive goals. The sooner the European bureaucrats understand this, the less harm they will be able to do to European business and the population,” said Anatoly Glaz. “For us, these new restrictive measures are completely “We have a lot of development plans, the economy is actively working and, frankly, there are a lot of things and projects ahead.”

The Foreign Ministry spokesman noted that the country is preparing for Independence Day and plans to become a full member of the SCO this week. There are also plans for a number of serious foreign visits and the launch of significant cooperation programs with those countries that want to develop mutually beneficial cooperation. “And there are the majority of such countries in the world,” he noted.

“Against this background, the attempts of the EU leadership to stop our development with their illegal sanctions packages look a little comical. It is obvious that decisions made in haste in order to be in time for the change of chairmanship will in fact strengthen us even more, intensify interaction with key partners, and cause discomfort primarily to the Europeans and ultimately will further weaken the European Union itself,” said Anatoly Glaz.

He doubts that with such approaches, which are not shared by the global majority, the European Union will be able to claim in the future at least any significant role in the new world order being built.

According to Anatoly Glaz, the government of Belarus has already prepared a set of asymmetric response measures. They will be associated with tightening conditions for imports and activities in Belarus of entities from unfriendly countries. “We emphasize once again that these steps on our part are not proactive, and all the blame for this lies with the initiators of the sanctions - the EU leadership. Although we are still convinced that in order to remove mutual claims, it is more effective not to exchange restrictions, but to dialogue, to which Belarus ready in any formats and on any of the most sensitive issues,” added the Foreign Ministry representative.
