Transfiguration of Lord celebrated by Catholics

Catholic believers celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord today, BELTA reports.

According to the Gospel, at the end of his earthly life Jesus Christ revealed to his disciples that he had to suffer for people, die on the cross and rise again. He led the three apostles, Peter, James, and John, to Mount Tabor, where he was transfigured before them, his face shining, and his clothes becoming dazzling white. Two prophets of the Old Testament, Moses and Elijah, appeared before Jesus on the mountain and talked with him. And the voice of God the Father testified to the deity of Christ from the light cloud on the mountain.

By the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, Jesus Christ showed the disciples the glory of his deity so that they would not waver in their faith in him, the only begotten Son of God, during his coming suffering and death on the cross.

In a certain sense, the Feast of the Transfiguration is related and comparable to the Old Testament feast of the consecration of fruits. In the East, by the beginning of August cereals and grapes ripened, which believers brought to the temple for blessing as a sign of gratitude to God for the gift of these fruits.

In Christianity, the consecration of fruits on the Feast of the Transfiguration has acquired a special symbolic meaning: the Transfiguration of Christ shows that new, transformed and gracious state, which man and the world acquire by the Resurrection of Christ and which will be realized in the resurrection of all people.
