Established by UNESCO, World Science Day for Peace and Development has been celebrated annually for thirteen years. Currently, over 17,000 specialists are involved in conducting scientific research in Belarus, a quarter of them being young researchers under 30 years old, every fifth having a degree. The main areas subject to research are space and biotechnologies, the pharmaceutical industry, medicine and agriculture.
Belarusian Science Day is celebrated on the last Sunday of January.
