More than 60 American scientists and analysts signed an open letter calling on NATO not to promise Ukraine an invitation to the alliance at the upcoming summit. The text was published by the publication Politico. The experts reminded about the Fifth Article of the Washington Treaty, according to which an attack on one of the alliance countries will be considered as an attack on all. Consequently, the result could be a direct war between NATO and Russia or the collapse of NATO itself.
Earlier, the bloc failed to agree on long-term assistance to Ukraine: Secretary General Stoltenberg failed to convince representatives of member states to make multi-year financial commitments.
