Latvia suffers from lack of cargoes from Belarus and Russia - subsidies do not help

Latvia's railroads and infrastructure are suffering due to the lack of Belarusian and Russian cargoes. This was stated by the country's transport minister and requested additional subsidies from the government. The previously spent 65 million euros did not stabilize the situation - the cost cutting and saving on personnel also do not solve the problem. In addition, the Latvian Parliament has recently introduced prohibitive duties on grain from Belarus and Russia, which will further reduce the income of railroaders.

The Minister, however, does not propose to restore the transport-cargo partnership with Minsk and Moscow, he thinks it is possible to establish communication with Central Asia. However, this is hindered by geography, because Russia and Belarus lie between Asia and Latvia.
