How Car Free Day affected level of air pollution in Minsk

There was a decrease in air pollution during the Car Free Day. This was reported to BelTA by the National Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Pollution Control and Environmental Monitoring of the Ministry of Environment.

On September 21 and 22, an experiment was held in Minsk, where concentrations of pollutants in the atmospheric air were measured at points agreed with Minsk City Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. Thus, on September 21, in the area of the recreation area (Museum of Boulders), the intersection of Y. Kolas and Kulman Street and in the vicinity of the recreation area (Gorky Park) the nitrogen dioxide concentration was 0.2 MAC and carbon oxide concentration was from 0.08 to 0.09 MAC, the concentration of formaldehyde was below the detection limit of the method. On September, 22 the concentration of nitrogen dioxide was from 0.1 to 0.2 MAC and concentration of carbon oxide - from 0.03 to 0.08 MAC. The concentration of formaldehyde was below the detection limit of the method.
