Integrated development of Minsk discussed at Palace of Independence

20 мая 2021

The integrated development of the Belarusian capital was discussed today at the Palace of Independence. A big city, especially a megalopolis, always means a lot of tasks and issues, such as economy, the work of enterprises, housing and utilities services and, of course, security. And in this regard we constantly face problems, especially last year.

As for the resolution of the issues in Minsk, the head of state set a number of tasks before the city leadership and the responsible team. First, they concern beautification. Minsk is the face of the country. When you look at it, you get an impression of the entire country. Justified criticism was voiced as regards the long-running construction projects. By August 1, a specific action plan should be submitted to the head of state for each facility. A draft decree has also been prepared, which will improve the system of local government in Minsk. From now on, the problems of the inhabitants of each district will be solved faster.

Today, Minsk is a city with a population of more than 2 million people. Partizansky District has the largest number of enterprises, Frunzensky District is the most populous (470 thousand people). In the daily flow of political, economic, cultural events, it is impossible to manage it without a rational approach. There are a lot of plans and problems.

The President said more than once that the goal for the next five years is order and beautification. Both Belarusians and tourists would like to enjoy a beautiful and blooming Minsk in summer.

In the first quarter, Minsk showed steady growth. The budget revenues increased by 16% and exports of goods and services are also growing.

The capital is still the center of attraction. As Minsk grows, so do the accompanying problems. Traffic jams, jammed parking lots, new construction sites visible from the window. At the moment, 151 residential houses are being built in Minsk. That's almost 2 million more squares. Oktyabrsky, Moskovsky and Tsentralny districts are the leaders in active construction. There are people who want to live well, but statistics show that not all of them are eager to work.

One can imagine what would happen if the entire country moved to live in Minsk. That is why the tendency is understandable: to build up less and less in the capital every other year, and build more in the suburbs and satellite towns. Natalya Kochanova will soon be submitting a report to the President on the work of the construction complex of the country.

The mayor of Minsk will be the first to report on the ongoing construction projects. There are 21 problematic residential buildings. And there are also mothballed investment projects. They literally surrounded the National Library.  The President instructed the government of Minsk to make decisions on the long-term construction projects by August 1.

Given the circumstances, all issues are tied to security. Radicals make it clear that they want new turmoil for us and are constantly announcing their plans.  All nuances about ensuring order and comfortable stay of citizens and guests must be taken into account.

The system of local self-government will be improved in Minsk. The relevant draft decree has been prepared.

This conversation was especially useful today for the heads of district administrations. They receive valuable instructions from the President on the rational land use, operation of the housing and utilities infrastructure, urban transportation, water quality, and environment.

A monument to Metropolitan Filaret will be constructed in Minsk. The monument to the hero of Belarus, a man who has done a lot for the country and its spiritual development will be built near the cathedral.
