Larisa Bibik: Brest is a place of strength for Belarus

10 мая 2024

The defenders of the Brest Fortress were the first to oppose the fascists. It is symbolic that it is there, on the territory of the Kobrin fortification, where the 125th rifle regiment was located in 41, where the republican center for patriotic education of youth is being created today.

Larisa Bibik, scientific secretary of the Brest Fortress-Hero Memorial Complex:

May 9 is not just a date on the calendar. It is some special realization of what is in your biography, personal, what is in the history of the country, and what, of course, will invariably live in the future. It is no coincidence that the newspaper "Pravda" for May 9, 1945 wrote that we will never forget this Victory Day, just as we will never forget the day of June 22. And these two dates - tragic and victorious - they are inextricably linked. Because on June 22, 1941 the first step to Victory was made.

The road that is an integral part of the biography of the Brest Fortress itself is the road to the future. Because it is located directly on the place where the Republican Patriotic Youth Center is being created. It is not just a part of the fortress, it is an integral part of its heroic defense in June - July 1941.

"The fate of the command of the 125th Rifle Regiment turned out to be quite different, as the fate of all representatives during the Great Patriotic War. In fact, very many are still listed as missing in action. Their fate is unknown.

The resident of Brest is sure that the city has a special status - it has the Brest Fortress and it's a kind of a place of strength for Belarus
