Alexei Gaidashov, head of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition, told about the equipment, which was developed by scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and which polar explorers use in Antarctica.
"The policy of the National Academy of Sciences in this field for many years, decades is based on the introduction of the maximum number of devices, instrument complexes developed in Belarus. Now we are faced with a situation when imported equipment, devices are difficult to maintain and operate. Therefore, at this stage we are getting a positive result from the groundwork that was laid decades ago by the Academy of Sciences. We are working on devices of national development, software and so on. These are modern instrument complexes, which are not inferior to Western analogs, and in some cases surpass them, and in some cases there are no analogs," said Alexei Gaidashov.
According to him, every year the expedition gets another instrument set of a new development of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. For example, a new seismological monitoring station, which, as he hopes, in the near future will join the world network of seismological stations.
