Flowers in memory of concentration camp prisoners laid in Trostenets

On April 11, the International Day of liberation of prisoners of Nazi concentration camps. On our territory there were more than 150 places of mass detention and extermination. One of the largest of them is Trostenets. Today, former prisoners, young people, deputies and representatives of public organizations laid flowers at the memorial complex.

According to initial data, more than 200 thousand people were exterminated on this territory. After studying archival documents, the General Prosecutor's Office found confirmations, the number of victims is about 550 thousand. These are both peaceful Soviet citizens and Jews, who were brought to Minsk by special transport.

During the occupationof 1941-1944 millions of civilians, old people, women and children were killed on the territory of modern Belarus. People died in death camps, were killed in gas chambers, shot in cities, burned in villages and hamlets.

“All our people went through forced confinement and concentration camps and lost their health camps. I was already in Germany in 1943 until they liberated me in 1945. Of course, we remember hunger, cold - it was a terrible time. God forbid that our youth felt it too.”
