May 9 is one of the main holidays of Belarus and Russia. Today a wreath from the embassy of our country was laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow. The ceremony is traditionally held on the eve of the great holiday and is dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The monument is located in the Alexander Garden near the Kremlin walls. This place is a symbol of remembrance of all the soldiers who died defending our Motherland. It is no coincidence that the words "Your name is unknown, your deed is immortal" are carved on the stone above the Eternal Flame.

According to State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev, May 9 is one of the most important holidays for both Belarusians and Russians, especially today, when the history of the Great Patriotic War is being rewritten and the monuments to the soldiers-liberators are being demolished. In these difficult times this date unites our peoples even more strongly.

Dmitry Mezentsev, State Secretary of the Union State:

The absolute majority of Russians and Belarusians understand the need to protect the historical truth, then, when Macron calls either to send troops, or instructors, or scare. But most importantly, whatever the rhetoric, it is a rhetoric of threat and disagreement with our just struggle. Those politicians were people who lived through the tragedy of World War II and deeply understood, through the examples of their loved ones, through their own experiences, the scale of the threat and danger to the world.
