The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a reception on the occasion of the holiday. Vladimir Makei, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO, addressed the participants of the event with a welcoming speech. In his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out that today the issue of personnel training becomes paramount and reaches a qualitatively new level.

Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus:

Time dictates the need to train specialists, who understand the modern situation, who are able to adapt to conditions changing at a lightning speed. According to the UN, Belarus ranks 53rd in the world on the human development index, with an almost 100% literacy rate. Not all countries can boast of this. This is a great merit of the Belarusian State University, which trains highly qualified specialists in various fields.

The importance of the first and main university in Belarus is hard to overestimate. Its structural units were transformed into the National Library, BGMU, BNTU and BSEU. Today, the Belarusian State University is one of the best educational institutions in the world. It has more than 10 thousand foreign graduates. The inclusion of the 100th anniversary of Belarusian State University in the UNESCO calendar of commemorations testifies to the high international authority of the university and its achievements in educational and academic fields.
