Why single voting day in Belarus has chances to become benchmark of high-quality election campaign

24 февраля 2024

This year is an election year not only for Belarus and Russia. The Lithuanian presidential election will be held in May 2024. And there are serious games in the struggle for power there.

At the same time, in our country everything is as honest and transparent as possible. Moreover, in the Year of Quality, the single day of voting has every chance to become a benchmark of a high-quality election campaign. Why? This is the subject of the new issue of the author's program "Platform".

A return to real democracy is possible if elections are held in the interests of our own people, not those of external do-gooders. Belarus has been demonstrating this for many years in a row, but in this Year of Quality it is bringing this process to a benchmark level.

The single day of voting is February 25. But the current election campaign has long allowed us to draw certain conclusions. First of all, the thesis about the alleged lack of competitiveness, which is disseminated by the opponents of the authorities, is once again disproved by the reality itself.

There are 265 candidates for 110 seats in the House of Representatives after registration.

They range in age from 23 to 66 years old. The competition is 2.4 people per seat. Specifically in my constituency, there are 4 registered candidates. And there were 6 nominated. No competition, you say? And 18,802 people are running for 12,514 seats on local councils of deputies. Approximately 1.5 people per seat.
