Belarus is expected to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on July 4 in Astana. This, among other things, was discussed today in Kazakhstan at the regular meeting of state secretaries of the SCO security councils. Our country will become the tenth full member of this representative integration entity in the Eurasian space and the Middle East. Recently, it has been rapidly expanding due to new applications. In 2022, 6 new dialogue partners joined the organization, 4 of which are Arab countries (UAE, Egypt, Bahrain and Kuwait). Last year Iran became a full member of the SCO.

Alexander Volfovich, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus:

“Just a little while ago, I had a conversation with the Secretary General of the Shanghai Organization, Mr. Min. He assured me that all the states have signed all the relevant protocol documents, it remains to set the stage officially at the summit of heads of state - to accept our country as a member of the Shanghai Organization. It is symbolic that it will take place, first of all, on July 4, almost immediately after we celebrate the 80th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from the Nazi invaders. It is very symbolic - the next day. Therefore, indeed, our country's accession to the Shanghai Organization will further strengthen security issues, expand the framework of international interaction and the framework of economic opportunities, improve the well-being of our country.”
