Long flight - Why the path of the ship "Soyuz MS-25" to the ISS increased to two days

Astronomer, associate professor of the Department of Physics of Moscow State University (Russia) Vladimir Surdin told the TV channel "Belarus 1", why the path of the ship "Soyuz MS-25" to the ISS increased from 3.5 hours to about two days.

Vladimir Surdin:

"The orbit for a short flight to the ISS is calculated with such a short time margin that at the moment of takeoff from the cosmodrome, the ISS just passed approximately over the launch site of your rocket, so that you could meet the station on half a revolution or on the first revolution around the Earth. But if the moment of flight is postponed, the Earth turns, it has to make one or two turns to come back to the right configuration. That's called a long flight."

"There's nothing wrong with that," the astronomer remarked. - The Soyuz spacecraft is designed to keep the cosmonauts alive for many days. They'll just spend more time in the ship than they bargained for. It's not very pleasant, the ship is cramped, but they've flown like that many times, and there's nothing wrong with it."
