Oleg Makarov tells why Belarus needs political parties

To form a political culture and build a trusting dialogue between the society and the state - this is only a small part of the tasks facing the Belarusian parties. It is important not to tear the Belarusian society into different political camps, but to consolidate it in the face of large-scale challenges.

Oleg Makarov, Director of Belarusian Institute of Social Researches:

“This is not the first meeting of the head of state devoted to the parties issue. These issues were discussed before the decision to create the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, during the adoption of amendments to the Constitution and during the referendum. As of today, we are already in the process. This question "should we follow this path?" has already been passed and considered several years ago. Won't the parties split the society? The President said that this is unacceptable, there should be different programs, there should be different views, but the goal is still the same - the unity of our society, support of the state, statehood, sovereignty and so on.”
